Citizenship & PR Card Renewals

When traveling outside of Canada, the permanent resident (PR) card serves as your official proof of Canadian permanent residency. It is essential for re-entry into the country via commercial transportation modes such as airplanes, boats, trains, or buses.

Canadian permanent residents are required to present their permanent resident card when traveling to Canada to confirm their permanent resident status. Those without a PR card or not carrying it while traveling abroad must obtain a permanent resident travel document before returning to Canada by air to comply with eTA requirements.

Expiration of a PR card does not equate to loss of permanent resident status. Initially, PR cards are typically valid for 5 years. Since permanent residents can apply for citizenship after residing in Canada for 3 years, many PR cards are not renewed. However, individuals who do not pursue Canadian citizenship may need to renew their PR cards upon expiration.

We can assist you with:

  • Renewal your PR card
